A Fresh Start for My Mom: A Full-Circle Miracle in Our Family Home
In 2012, my life was forever changed by an act of extreme violence. The place where it happened? In the front yard of my childhood home. For years, it stood as a painful reminder of trauma. But today, I get to share something miraculous: that same home is being transformed into a symbol of healing, hope and new beginnings.

Thanks to an incredible partnership between Abundant Life Ministries, Mission to Serve, and Hands Across the Bay, my sweet mama, Joann Dohme, is receiving a full home renovation...inside and out. After decades of serving as a nurse and caregiver to so many, and now battling severe rheumatoid arthritis, she was physically unable to maintain the home herself. But God had a bigger plan. 💜
This isn’t just construction - it’s restoration. It’s renewal. When I picked up a sledgehammer during the demolition in February, I wasn’t just tearing down walls. I was letting go of years of pain and reclaiming our story.
I feel the Lord is saying: I’m not done with this family yet.
This miracle started with a simple act of love: a nomination to ALM and Pastor Kirk. Thank you so much to Julie and Emily from Hands Across the Bay for seeing the need and believing in what was possible. You planted the seed that led to this blessing for my mom...and for our whole family.
It still feels unbelievable. After everything we’ve walked through, it’s like God is reaching back into the very roots and foundation of my life and restoring it. Giving my mom this gift is proof that He is still in the business of miracles. After so many years of trauma, this is a full-circle healing moment that only God could orchestrate. This project is a living testimony of how big and mighty our God truly is.
I want to give my deepest, most heartfelt thank you to every person and business that has poured into this project, with extra love and appreciation to:
🙏 & Countless volunteers from Abundant Life Church who gave their time and hearts
You have helped redeem a home that once held so much sorrow. Thank you for being vessels of hope. Thank you for reminding us that no matter what our past looks like, we can still plant new seeds… and bloom again.
